Hello weevils!
I have no idea how long this has been a thing due to having an ad blocker open all the time but from seeing certain screenshots tossed around the community, I have since discovered that the promotions are now inescapable on the website; when we thought all the promotions on the actual game were bad enough! Let's just look at this sampled screenshot below:

Let's just look at this sampled screenshot below:
So as you can see, a pop-up ad for 'My Little Pony' is visible which will pretty much be visible everywhere you scroll until you close the advertisement. Now of course, advertisements aren't a new thing on the website since even since the second generation, adverts were being shown in their respectable places in boxes made especially for such promotions. Compared to the pop-up advertisements, these ads were easily avoidable and weren't exactly disrupting whatever you was doing on the game so they weren't much of a pain. In addition to the pop-up ads, you will be trying to read a latest blog post, take part in a poll or what not and abracadabra!, an advert of a product you would have likely already seen advertised in-game will be shoved right in your face expecting to get attention!
So, what are they trying to achieve? Well obviously, money is the top priority as it always is in the eyes of 55Pixels but to go as far as now flooding the advertisements on your HTML documents must really show you are desperate! And in contrast with your declining player base and subscribers, this is hardly surprising. Since Bin Weevils is due for closure and Weevil World isn't officially out yet, it is clear that the company would need to gather as much money as they can since when Weevil World is properly up and running with paid membership and other features, a new community needs to be formed since the current community has pretty much collapsed due to the ridiculous decisions made on Bin Weevils throughout the past years. Now, I'm not against earning money in order to fall back on when you are going through the long process of attracting several people onto your new game but do you really have to make the Bin Weevils website look like some average site which you use to illegally stream movies or download some dodgy content on?
If you want to gain more money from ads, then I personally think the best way is to actually create that so-called new video series you promised a few months back and place it inside Rigg's Cinema which should then encourage people to go there and watch it. With that in hand, one or two advertisements should be then displayed before the video starts and boom, nobody is really being bombarded and the player's activity isn't being disrupted as they are spending that time waiting for a video and NOT trying to view a particular section of a blog. Oh, and at the same time, maybe you ought to improve the video player you use inside the cinema because it can really be a laggy nuisance.
The promotions on Bin Weevils overall have became beyond ridiculous. What's next? Getting a bunch of pop-up windows open in your browser when you click 'Play Now'; or being asked to take part in a small survey before logging on or registering? I best keep such words to myself because you don't know what particular staff members have seen this site and I myself am really not prepared to give them ideas that will do bad things!
I am really worried for the future in some aspects when I see sites aimed at even children be flooded with so many ads. For crying out loud, stop trying to constantly rub promotions in innocent children's faces whom don't even earn their own living! It's just plain rude and unfair! Just stick to the old fashioned way of advertisements only being placed on loading screens, reserved sections of the site and of course, being placed on the actual game BUT in the form of small bubbles and certain areas that are purposely made to host particular promotions!
That's it for this post!
